After securing his re-election, President Barack Obama will lose several high-profile cabinet members, including Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, in his second term.
All of his outgoing members are likely to serve until Jan. 20, when Obama’s first term officially ends. It is unknown how much of a role the secretaries will play the transition.
The changes come after “a pretty stable cabinet” during his first term, during which the president only lost then-Defense Secretary Robert Gates. Gates served in the position under former President George W. Bush and continued under Obama until last year.
Host Carmen Russell-Sluchansky spoke with Edward-Isaac Dovere, deputy White House editor for Politico, to discuss Obama’s cabinet shuffle.
