
A bipartisan group of eight ranking senators have proposed on Monday sweeping immigration reform that includes a “tough” path to citizenship, an increase in the number of visas for engineers, enhanced employment verification and beefed up border security.
The senators include influential Democrats such as Majority Whip Dick Durbin and New York Sen. Chuck Schumer and major Republican players John McCain and Lindsey Graham. Their announcement came just one day before President Obama is set to announce his policy recommendations on Tuesday in Las Vegas.
