GOP leaders demand IRS explain why they weren’t informed sooner

The House Oversight and Reform Committee again heard testimony by witnesses from the IRS and the Treasury Department on Wednesday as a continuation of ongoing congressional hearings into why the IRS was using additional scrutiny when reviewing 501c4 applications from conservative and tea party groups.

Committee chairman Republican Congressman Darrell Issa grilled J. Russell George for not alerting Congress about the targeting. Other witnesses included IRS official Lois Lerner, Deputy Treasury Secretary Neal Wolin and former IRS commissioner Douglas Shulman.

Host Carmen Russell-Sluchansky spoke with political reporter Dmitriy Shapiro to discuss the hearings and the latest in the IRS case.
